In Yanaka, Taito-ku, there is an unique place named “Torinoiru Café” (meaning “the café with birds”) where you can play and interact with birds. Ural owls and horned owls fly around in the café. You can enjoy medium and large size parrots’ chattering. Let’s have the interaction with them.
At “Torinoiru Café,” there are not only ural owls and horned owls but other raptors like peregrine falcons and hawks. And they also have medium and large size parrots. When we visited the café, there were 74 owls, a peregrine falcon, 13 parrots with parakeets, prairie dogs and hedgehogs. A total of 96 animals were playing around.
From winter to spring, it is the time when they have a smallest number of animals. From the beginning of May to fall, it is the time when the place is most crowded welcoming baby birds fresh out of the shells. In that season, the café becomes livelier with almost 140 of birds.
Let’s go into the bird free room. If you call out to the staffs, they will place owl on your arm or shoulder. Some owls are very friendly, and they may sit on your shoulder or head on their own.
According to their experienced staff, owls are like “moody cats.” They are unfriendly, but they come to you when they feel lonely. That hot-and-cold personality seems to touch bird lovers.
If you want to get close to owls, you should buy snack (300 yen) and try to feed them. They may walk up to you flapping their wings if they are hungry. It would be great to see their cute action while they are eating.
You can also buy their owls and hawks. This place is one of the shops with the widest variety and number of birds in Japan. So, bird lovers come here from far. All the staffs have long experience, and they will give you the great tips on how to raise and feed them. Many people fell for the charm of owl here and took home one of them.
Even if you’ve never had the interaction with birds, “Torinoiru Café” can make you fall in love with them. Would you like to fall for the charm of bird?
