Due to the great success of Japanese players in 2016 Summer Olympics, table tennis became popular at once. It is said that 8.3 million people play table tennis in Japan. T.LEAGUE was established this year, and the boom of table tennis will accelerate towards 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
“TaKuSuRu” located at Tokyo Dome City Yellow Building is a facility that beginners can enjoy table tennis easily. The theme of the facility is “play and learn table tennis.” During the daytime on weekdays, there are the classes held by the manufacturer of table tennis supplies, Nittaku. The facility is open to public on weekends and national holidays and after 17:00 on weekdays. Variety of people come to play table tennis here. Some of them want to get better with practice, and some just enjoy table tennis after work or on holiday.
Table tennis classes held between 10:00 and 17:00 on weekdays are divided into 3 classes according to the level and purpose of learners such as hard ball, junior and large ball for beginners and elderly people to enjoy rally easier. The attraction of these classes is that they have great instructors like Kinji Kondo who was used to be the manager of women’s national team and won 3 bronze medals.
On weekends and national holidays, and after 17:00 on weekdays, this facility is open to family and group enjoying table tennis. Since table tennis was established in England, TaKuSuRu’s interior is inspired by Union Jack and it gives impression of playground for adults. There is a bowling alley on the same floor and you can play table tennis while you wait for open spot at the bowling alley. Also, you can play bowling while you wait for open table at TaKuSuRu.
