This is a cafe with gallery very near to Edogawabashi station. The cafe handles first rate foodstuff and designer’s tableware according to specific themes.
They have house made juice, and regular sweets which are collaboration work with popular Japanese sweets shop. All the food is original that you can have only here. So, many fans come to have them from distant places.
The owner Daisuke Okada has 20 years of career as a sushi chef. This cafe becomes sushi restaurant “Sumeshiya” at dinner time. You have to have an introduction, and reservation is required. The restaurant serves seasonal food that Mr. Okada carefully chooses from all over Japan.
Mr. Okada originally had a sushi restaurant at Hatchobori near to Tsukiji market. He says that he wants to know origin of the foodstuff such as how they grow and who grow them. So, he visits all over Japan to search for foodstuff and learn local sushi.
Another notable point is their tableware. Not only Sumeshiya but also cafe use designers’ products. You use those tableware and if you like them, you can buy them at gallery space. At the moment, more than 50 designers with ceramic, woodcraft and metal work, are in contact.
Also, workshops and study groups are held irregularly, such as “making chocolate from cacao” and “making seasoning.” In the workshops of making seasoning, miso and soy sauce manufacture are invited as lecturer.
